Join Art with Liz every week at the Library to learn about classic and contemporary artists, followed by a free art workshop.
For our final artist, we will have the very special artist, Dyani White Hawk Polk White Hawk Polk
is an American contemporary artist and curator of Sicangu Lakota, German,
and Welsh ancestry based out of Minnesota. From 2010 to 2015, White Hawk was a curator for
the Minneapolis gallery All My Relations. As an artist, White Hawk's work aesthetic is
characterized by a combination of modern abstract painting and traditional Lakota art. White
Hawk's pieces reflect both her Western, American upbringing and her indigenous ancestors
mediums and modes for creating visual art. Her practice is grounded in European and Native
patterning and abstraction but comes to life primarily through Native American bead work.
Students who participate in this class will also use beads and paper mosaic to bring their art to
fruition. It will be a new way to see art and change our ideas about the history of art. It will
open up doors of learning new ways of doing better and treating each other better through our
artistic practices and hopefully beyond! All are welcome!
This program will be held both in person and live on Zoom and YouTube.
Registration is required whether you are attending in person or online. Registration closes 15 minutes before each class. You will receive the Zoom link and password 15 minutes before the class begins.
