Wednesday, October 07
10:30am - 12:30pm
Join Art with Liz every week to learn about classic and contemporary artists, followed by a free art workshop. In-person and live on Zoom & YouTube!
*Special Note: Art with Liz will be held at a new location while the library is under construction. Classes will be held at Hoboken Library's Grand Street branch, located at 124 Grand Street, on the second floor, in the Health Department's program room.
Please follow the way finding signs once you enter the building. If you cannot make it in person, you can register to receive a zoom link so you can join remotely and or watch us on YouTube either on the same day or view the class video at your leisure.
During the month of October, the art class will do projects that celebrate Latino American artists and their work. In each class, a
Latino artist will be introduced, their work will be discussed and viewed, and a project inspired by each particular artist will be offered
for students to work on. The same artist will be our inspiration in the morning and afternoon classes.
The first artist we will look at and study is Mexican American Rafa Esparza. His highly evocative installation work constructed of
hand made adobe bricks speaks very vividly to the whole new meaning of “walls” in our culture. Students will be invited to discuss
and think about what walls have been in their lives. We will then create images of either metaphorical walls or actual walls. An
exploration of the use of “earth tones” and ochres as minimalist and natural palettes will be launched. We will paint and dye with
acrylics and other earthy tints like teas and coffee grounds to create our finished works.
All materials are provided. This class is open to artists of any level, including beginners. All are welcome!
This program will be held both in person and live on Zoom and YouTube.
Registration is required whether you are attending in person or online. Registration closes 15 minutes before each class. You will receive the Zoom link and password 15 minutes before the class begins.
