A psychological suspense novel that weaves a mystery about a childhood game gone dangerously awry.

For our November book club meeting, we will be discussing The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor (debut, 2018).

Copies can be ordered through the BCCLS catalog here and are also on reserve on the second floor of the Main branch. Audiobook and ebook is available on Libby.

In 1986, Eddie and his friends spend their days in search of adventure. The drawn chalk men stick figures are their secret code. But one morning the friends find a chalk man leading them to the woods. They follow the message, only to find the dead body of a teenage girl.

In 2016, Eddie is nursing a drinking problem and trying to forget his past, until one day he gets a letter containing a chalk man—the same one he and his friends saw when they found the body. All his old friends, too, received the same note. Then, one of them is murdered, pushing Eddie to uncover what happened all those years ago. But digging into the past proves very dangerous because the town has secrets, and many in it will do anything to bury the truth.
